The Sandbox is a community which aims to provide a co-creating space for a range of makers. The project makes use of the Ottakring site by creating a multitude of private ‘maker spaces’ and workshop facilities for analogue and digital creation. Access to communal creative spaces is important, that is why The Sandbox is a not-for-profit and uses the generated revenue from the rent of the ‘maker spaces’ to fund a communal garden, a gallery and an event space for the wider community. It is here that we aim diversify its network, including peers and other young professionals, creating a loop of continuous knowledge exchange. This allows the ‘sand’ to move outside the ‘sandbox’, as it extends its influence and inspiration into the Viennese creative scene.
